Understand the Human Body - and Strengthen Your Professional Foundation
Anatomy and physiology form the scientific foundation behind many health, massage, beauty, fitness, wellness and complementary therapy disciplines.
Anatomy explores the structure and physical organisation of the human body, while physiology examines how cells, tissues, organs and body systems function. Together, they help you understand not only where structures are located, but how different parts of the body interact as one integrated organism.
The CAMS Anatomy & Physiology Certificate Course takes you from the microscopic foundations of cells and tissues through to the major systems of the body. You will study the skin, skeleton, muscles, respiratory system, sense organs, cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, urinary system, endocrine and reproductive systems, digestive system and nervous system.
For anyone working with the body professionally, this knowledge can add real value. It may help you communicate more confidently with clients, better understand the body areas involved in your services and build a stronger theoretical foundation for additional therapy or wellness training.
ABOUT THE COURSE
The course begins with the fundamental building blocks of the human body.
You will explore levels of organisation from atoms and molecules through cells, tissues, organs and complete body systems. The manual introduces important concepts including homeostasis, cellular structure and function, cell division, metabolism, tissue types and the relationships between organs and glands.
From there, you progress into detailed study of the major body systems.
The course examines the structure of bones, joints and muscles; skin and its appendages; breathing and circulation; lymphatic and urinary function; hormones and reproduction; digestion; sensory organs; and the nervous system. Throughout the manual, students are introduced to anatomical terminology, body structures, physiological processes and the ways in which systems influence one another.
Why Study This Course
If you intend to work with people in a body-based, wellness or complementary field, knowing why the body responds the way it does can be just as important as knowing what technique to use.
Anatomy and physiology can provide a stronger professional foundation for disciplines such as massage, sports massage, spa therapy, beauty therapy, complementary wellness and other body-focused services.
It can also help existing practitioners deepen the knowledge behind the services they already provide.
Modular Focus
What You'll Learn
Start at the foundations of human life. Study the structure and function of cells, cell membranes and organelles, mitosis and meiosis, metabolism and cellular transport. Progress into histology and learn about epithelial, connective, muscular and nervous tissues and how tissues combine to form organs and glands.
Develop detailed knowledge of the integumentary system, including the epidermis, dermis, hypodermis, skin appendages and functions of the skin. Explore bone structure, the axial and appendicular skeleton, anatomical terminology, joints, joint movements and spinal curvatures before progressing into muscular structure, muscle contraction and movement.
Learn how oxygen, blood and lymph move through the body and support its tissues. Study the respiratory system together with the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, helping you understand how these essential systems work individually and interact with other parts of the body.
Explore the body’s internal regulatory and processing systems. Study the urinary system, endocrine glands and hormones, reproductive system and digestive system, including their structures, physiological functions and contribution to maintaining normal body function.
Understand how the body receives, processes and responds to information. Study the nervous system and sensory organs, including their structures and functions, and develop a clearer understanding of how nerve impulses, sensation and body responses are coordinated.
