Course Overview
The Hypnotherapy Certificate Course explores hypnosis as a field of applied psychology and examines how attention, conditioning, suggestion and subconscious responses are presented within the course framework.
You begin by studying the conscious, subconscious and unconscious mind before progressing to conditioning, the power of suggestion, conscious acceptance, conscious suspension, monotony, trust and emotional responses.
The course then moves into the practical theory of hypnosis, including preparation, induction procedures, recognising responses, direct and post-hypnotic suggestion, self-hypnosis and the different stages of hypnosis.
A substantial advanced section broadens the learning into psychotherapy theory, communication, rapport, client relationships, the effectiveness of therapy, professional values, transference, self-disclosure, boundaries and the ways in which therapists may either support or harm clients.
About the Course
Hypnotherapy involves much more than learning a script or an induction technique. Effective work requires an understanding of how people respond differently, how suggestions are communicated and why trust, rapport and the relationship between practitioner and client matter.
The manual therefore combines the practical theory of hypnosis with wider perspectives on psychotherapy. Students are introduced to several approaches, including psychoanalytic, behavioural, cognitive, person-centred, Gestalt, existential, strategic and reality-based perspectives.
Research, reflection and independent thinking form an important part of the advanced assignments.
Why Study This Course
If you are fascinated by the relationship between thoughts, habits, attention, behaviour and suggestion, this course provides a structured way to explore the subject in depth.
Rather than concentrating only on how to induce hypnosis, the programme considers the person receiving it. You will examine communication, rapport, individual responses, the therapeutic relationship, professional responsibility and the importance of avoiding misuse of influence or authority.
The knowledge may support personal development, complement an existing wellness or helping role, or provide a foundation for further specialised study.
Modular Focus
What You'll Learn
Explore the course’s model of the conscious, subconscious and unconscious mind. Learn about conditioning, habitual responses, attention and consciousness, and examine how these concepts are used to explain the processes involved in hypnosis and suggestion.
Study the power and structure of suggestion, including conscious acceptance, subliminal suggestion and conscious suspension. Explore positive and singular suggestions, monotony, trust, sensory input and emotion, together with the ways different individuals may respond to suggestion.
Learn the theoretical preparation and sequence involved in conducting hypnosis. Topics include positioning, the environment, relaxation, voice and rhythm, recognising changes in a subject’s response, direct suggestion, group hypnosis, post-hypnotic suggestion and appropriately concluding a session.
Explore self-hypnosis, signals, stages of hypnosis and methods presented in the manual. Study sample scripts and different approaches to induction while developing a clearer understanding of how hypnotic communication may be adapted according to the individual and the intended purpose.
Progress into psychotherapy theories, hypnosis as a therapeutic tool, communication and rapport, the effectiveness of therapy and the factors affecting change. Later modules examine values, transference, self-disclosure, professional relationships, boundaries, power imbalances and potential harm in therapy.
