Course Overview
The Advanced Sports Massage Certificate Course is designed for people who already have a foundation in Swedish massage or basic sports massage and would like to expand their knowledge.
Sports massage requires more than applying firm pressure. The practitioner must understand why a particular technique is being used, how the timing of a session affects the client and when massage may or may not be appropriate.
Throughout the course, you will study maintenance massage, pre-event and post-event massage, overuse syndrome, common musculoskeletal injuries and the principles that apply during acute and post-acute stages. You will also explore advanced approaches such as Neuromuscular Technique, Muscle Energy Technique, Soft Tissue Release, Strain-Counterstrain and Connective Tissue Manipulation.
The course material combines theoretical understanding with detailed explanations and illustrations of practical massage methods.
About the Course
The course examines how massage may be adapted for athletes, active clients and people whose work or lifestyle places repeated demands on the body.
You will learn about the effects of massage, palpation, working posture, general and deep massage techniques, common causes of sports injuries and the role of massage at different stages of training and recovery.
Individual muscles and musculoskeletal injuries are also examined, helping you understand how tension, repetition, posture, stress and physical load can affect different areas of the body.
The course is not intended to replace medical diagnosis, physiotherapy or other regulated healthcare services. It teaches massage-related knowledge that must be applied responsibly and within the practitioner’s training and professional scope.
Why Study This Course
Basic massage routines do not always meet the needs of highly active clients.
This course can help you move beyond a general massage sequence and begin selecting techniques according to the purpose of the session. You will study how sports massage may be approached differently for preparation, recovery, maintenance and soft tissue tension.
The knowledge may be valuable to existing massage and wellness practitioners who want to work more confidently with active clients, broaden their service offering or continue developing their bodywork knowledge.
